Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State will flag off the distribution of 50,000 bags of grains to vulnerable households across the State. This initiative is part of his administration’s intervention to ease economic hardship for farmers and families during the pre-harvest season.
The flag-off ceremony takes place on Monday at the Stadium in Damaturu, with beneficiaries representing all 17 local government areas will be attended to. The programme is designed to cushion the impact of rising food costs and support communities until the new harvest is fully realised.
Through this and other programmes, the Buni administration continues its commitment to uplifting the people of Yobe, strengthening the agricultural sector and ensuring the State’s food security.

According to Mohammed Goje, Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the initiative comes at a critical period when many households have depleted their food reserves, having either consumed them during the farming season or invested them back into agricultural production.
“This crucial intervention will not only cushion families from hunger but also strengthen household food security and enhance livelihoods as the harvest season unfolds”, Goje stated.
He explained that the pre-harvest season is often the most challenging for rural families, as stocks are low while new crops are yet to be harvested. “Governor Buni’s foresight in approving this distribution shows his deep concern for the welfare of farmers and his commitment to reducing the impact of seasonal hunger on the most vulnerable,” he added.

Goje further assured that the grains would be equitably distributed across all the 17 local government areas of the State, targeting vulnerable households, internally displaced persons, and farming families most affected by seasonal shortages.
The distribution exercise, he said, is in line with the governor’s broader vision of strengthening resilience in communities, improving food security, and supporting livelihoods across the state.
“With this intervention, thousands of households will breathe a sigh of relief as they await the coming harvest”, Goje emphasised.
