Nigeria’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector has continued its growth pattern in the second quarter of 2025, emerging as one of the top drivers of non-oil growth.
The latest GDP report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reveals that ICT expanded in real terms by 6.61 percent, up by 2.23 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
The sector, which covers telecommunications, information services, publishing, broadcasting, and motion picture production, grew by 21.39 percent in nominal terms year-on-year, which more than doubles the 10.21 percent growth recorded in the second quarter of 2024.

ICT’s contribution to the economy also rose, accounting for 11.18 percent of total real GDP in Q2 2025, compared to 10.93 percent in Q2 2024 and 10.59 percent in the previous quarter
Telecommunications and Information Services remained the dominant subsector recording a real growth rate of 7.39 percent during the quarter. Broadcasting and publishing saw steady improvements, supported by digital platforms and increased content consumption.
The NBS noted that ICT was among the key industries driving non-oil sector growth, alongside agriculture, real estate, trade, and financial services. The non-oil sector grew by 3.64 percent in real terms in Q2, underscoring the central role of digital services in Nigeria’s economic diversification.
The ICT sector’s consistent expansion highlights the growing impact of mobile connectivity, digital payments, streaming services, and local tech innovations.
