Samuel Mariere, the executive chairman of SUBEB, has urged stakeholders in the education sector to support both the state government’s peace efforts and SUBEB’s commitment to building a culture of peace through education.
He made the call as he joined the global community in commemorating the 2025 World Peace Day.
Parents, teachers, community leaders, and education stakeholders should help and instill the values of peace and tolerance through education, he said.
In his message, he described peace as the bedrock of social progress and sustainable development, adding that schools play a vital role in shaping children into ambassadors of peace.
“Education is the most powerful foundation for building a peaceful society. By teaching our children values of respect, empathy, and nonviolence, we are preparing them to become responsible leaders and peacemakers of tomorrow.
“Here in Delta State, we remain committed to raising children who will champion peace, unity, and progress in their communities and beyond,” he stated.
Mariere commended Sheriff Oborevwori, the state governor, for his sustained efforts in promoting peace and stability through the M.O.R.E Agenda, which emphasises Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
“His Excellency’s M.O.R.E Agenda has further strengthened the foundations of peace and security in Delta State and this is directly impacting basic education positively.
When there is peace, schools function better, children learn in safe environments, and teachers are motivated to deliver quality education,” the SUBEB expressed.
World Peace Day, also known as the International Day of Peace, is observed every year on September 21. It was established by the United Nations to promote global ceasefire, harmony, and cooperation among nations.
