Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has described the judiciary as the bedrock of society, noting that fairness, equity, and justice remain vital for sustaining democracy.
Aiyedatiwa, who spoke at the weekend in Akure, where the crowd of supporters gave him a rousing welcome from Abuja following his victory at the Supreme Court, expressed profound gratitude to God, the people of Ondo State, and all those who stood by him throughout the legal process.
Recall that the Supreme Court on Wednesday affirmed the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, following the withdrawal of the appeal filed by Agboola Ajayi, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2024 governorship election in Ondo State.
The court also dismissed the appeals filed by the governorship candidates of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Bamidele Akingboye, and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Ogunfeyimi Kolawole.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, won in all the local government areas of the state in the 16 November 2024 election, according to the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He secured 366,781 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ajayi of the PDP, who scored 117,000 votes.
Aiyedatiwa, while commending the legal team for their professionalism and the judiciary for delivering justice without fear or favour, said, “this victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every citizen of Ondo State.”
He also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership, stating that when a good leader steers the affairs of a nation, fairness and equity prevail.
“I thank the people of Ondo State for entrusting us with their mandate and for standing by us during the election and the court process,” Aiyedatiwa said.
Ifedayo Abegunde, the Director of Corporate Affairs of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in his earlier goodwill message, described the Governor’s triumph as a victory for the people, affirming that their votes were not wasted.
