Oluwafemi Afolabi, a recent civil engineering graduate, is making waves in the construction industry with his work on a Krystal 12 Limited project in Lagos.
Seven months into the project, Afolabi’s designs are taking shape as multipurpose buildings rise.
“It’s one thing to run simulations in a study; it’s another to see cranes moving based on designs you helped shape,” Afolabi said, describing the experience as humbling and transformative. “We’re not just building; we’re building smarter.”
He focuses on structural optimisation and intelligent material use, concepts that are now being applied in the project.
“The optimisation framework we introduced has helped reduce unnecessary material bulk,” he explained, emphasising that it’s about using materials efficiently without compromising safety.
The collaborative culture within the Krystal 12 team has been instrumental in the project’s success.
Afolabi praised the senior engineers for their support, noting that they were willing to test the model, which is now becoming part of the design DNA.
