The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), has urged professionals and corporate leaders to urgently embrace ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) to aid professional efficiency and boost economy to ensure long-term development.
This call was made on Monday by the Vice-President of the Institute, Francis Olawale, while briefing newsmen on the Institute’s 49th Annual Conference, scheduled this week in Lagos.
Olawale, who stood in for the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute, Uto Ukpanah, noted that the rising influence of AI on governance and business operations required deliberate attention.
He said AI has come to change the way things are done in many areas of human life, especially in the commercial world and professional milieu.
“AI is not just a tool, but a disruptive force shaping many areas, including the governance realm. Nigeria must not only adapt to this revolution but also provide the framework for its ethical and responsible deployment” Olawale said.
Speaking on the forthcoming Conference, the ICSAN boss said participants at the conference would have a lot to gain by being part of the programme.
“One of the major benefits accruable to participants at the Conference is that it would give them knowledge and insight to overcome the fear of disruption that AI brings, and it would also enable them to see AI as a great tool for creativity and efficiency on their job and professional callings rather than as a hinderer.
“Participants will also have the opportunity to bond and network with like-minded seasoned professionals at the Conference and the Dinner”
The upcoming ICSAN Conference, which has the theme “Reimagining Governance: Navigating the Artificial Intelligence Revolution for Excellence,” will gather top thought leaders to deliberate on these issues.
Confirmed speakers include Senator Udo Udoma, Chairman of Seplat Energy as Conference Chairman; Femi Oyenuga, who is also an Executive Director with Chams Holding Company as Keynote Speaker; and Emmanuel Ikhazobor, Chairman of Dangote Cement as the Dinner Chairman.
