Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as their new manager, replacing Nuno Espírito Santo, who was sacked on Monday night after 21 months in charge.
Postecoglou returns to Premier League management just three months after leaving Tottenham Hotspur. The 60-year-old Australian endured a poor domestic campaign with Spurs last season, finishing 17th, but salvaged pride by guiding them to a historic Europa League triumph, ending the club’s long-running trophy drought.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis hailed the new manager’s winning pedigree and vision.
“We are bringing a coach to the club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies. His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve all our ambitions.”
Nuno, who had replaced Steve Cooper in December 2023, successfully steered Forest away from relegation danger and last season guided them to a remarkable seventh-place finish, their best since 1994/95, securing European qualification for the first time in 30 years. However, a poor start to the new campaign, capped by a 3-0 defeat to West Ham, led to his dismissal.
Forest currently sit 10th in the Premier League after three games. Postecoglou’s first test will be a tough trip to Arsenal on Saturday, as he becomes the club’s eighth permanent manager since Marinakis took over in 2017.
