Revenue generation at the Rivers Port, formerly Port Harcourt Port, has witnessed a 32% hike, with the Area 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) raking in N187 billion in the first eight months of 2025.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), led by Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller General of Customs, had initially proposed a revenue target of ₦6.584 trillion for 2025. The Nigerian Senate, however, raised this target to ₦10 trillion.
Agency reports, though, suggest that the NCS may have already surpassed their initial target projection for the first half of 2025.
YM Hashim, Comptroller of Customs and outgoing area controller of Area 1 Command, while handing over to his successor, Salamatu Atuluku, on September 4, 2025, said the feat was made possible through the collaborative efforts of officers and men of the command.

Hashim, in his account of stewardship, said that “from January to August 2025, the command recorded revenue collection of over ₦187 billion, leaving only about ₦29 billion (projected revenue) to go for the year, with four powerful’ embe’ months remaining.
“This collection, when compared to the same period in 2024, which stood at ₦142.5 billion, shows a difference of over ₦45 billion, representing a revenue growth of about 32%.”
The revenue generation also shows promise, according to the Comptroller, who noted that “At the start of 2025, the command was given a revenue target of over ₦216 billion with a monthly average of ₦18.077 billion.”
Hashim praised the hard work of officers and men of the command in achieving the revenue feat, while recalling that when he reported for duty at Area 1 Command in October 2023, he met “a big revenue ‘shoe’ of ₦11.8 billion.
“By the end of the year 2023, the total collection was one hundred and sixteen billion (₦116.5 billion). When compared with 2022, which stood at ₦92 billion, ₦24 billion represents a growth of 26.18%.
“The year 2024 also started afresh with a revenue collection of ₦17,065 billion in January. At the close of that year, we had collected over ₦200 billion, surpassing the 2023 figure of ₦116.5 billion by over ₦84 billion, a percentage increase of 72.41%.

“At this juncture, it is sufficient to reiterate that the very big revenue ‘shoes’ of ₦11 billion handed over to me by my predecessor have now expanded as the command recorded a revenue collection of over ₦31 billion in June 2025.
“These figures are not just numbers; they tell the story of sacrifice, teamwork, and the tireless commitment of officers and men of this command, supported by our stakeholders. I also owe special thanks to the Comptroller-General of Customs and his Management team for giving me the privilege to serve here,” he said.
Salamatu Atuluku, Comptroller of Customs and incoming area controller of Area 1 Command, described the appointment as a defining point in her career.
She expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeni, and his management team “for finding me worthy of this responsibility,” while assuring officers and men of the command of her commitment to teamwork.
