Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dragged the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police before the Police Service Commission (PSC), accusing the State Commissioner of Police and some officers of gross misconduct.
El-Rufai, in a petition dated September 8, 2025, which was addressed to the PSC Chairman, accused the Kaduna State Police Commissioner and the State Police Command of engaging in “unprofessional conduct and abuse of office”.
He also accused the Commissioner of “serial violations of the Police Act 2020 and regulations by the commissioner and some officers of the Kaduna State Police Command of the Nigeria Police”.
El-Rufai appealed to the Police Service Commission to immediately launch an ” impartial investigation into some “unlawful and unconstitutional conduct” by the State Police Command.
The petition came on the heels of recent directives by the Kaduna State Police Command, summoning El-Rufai and six ADC leaders for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public unrest, mischief and inflicting grievous harm.
El-Rufai and other ADC leaders were summoned by the Police via a letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Kaduna State Deputy Commissioner of Police, Uzainu Abdullahi.
The Police also directed the State ADC Chairman to present El-Rufai and six other party members at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on Monday, September 8.
The Police stated that the invitation followed complaints lodged against the politicians, accusing them of using suspected hoodlums, armed with cutlasses, clubs, and stones, to injure several people and destroyed vehicles.
But El-Rufai said his action was motivated by a sense of civic responsibility and concern for the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force, adding that the PSC’s investigation would help the commission to discharge its duties.
He said, “I am writing as a citizen of Nigeria and former governor of Kaduna State to formally lodge this complaint and demand an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation into the unlawful and unconstitutional conduct of the Commissioner of Police and some officers of the Kaduna State Police Command.
“This will assist the Police Service Commission in discharging its functions under the Constitution and section 6(1)(a) to (e) of the Commission’s enabling Act of 2001.
“I submit this petition with a profound sense of responsibility as a citizen of Nigeria and a public servant who has served our nation at national and subnational levels, including dedicating eight years to improving Kaduna State for all its residents.”
He declared that he was motivated by concern for the Nigerian Police Force, which, despite its challenges, remains the primary law enforcement institution in the Country.
“It is the duty of all citizens not only to support it but also to ensure the Commission can exercise its regulatory powers to enforce discipline and promote ethical conduct among all police officers”, he added.
He accused the police of intimidating opposition politicians in the State
