Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has agreed to join Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan, with the deal expected to be finalised before the transfer window in Turkey closes on Friday.
Sources close to the Cameroonian international confirm that the paperwork is being finalised, and the move should be completed in time for him to debut in Trabzonspor’s high-profile clash against Fenerbahçe on Sunday, September 14.
Onana, currently on international duty with Cameroon, had previously been linked with Galatasaray before the Istanbul giants opted to sign Ugurcan Cakir earlier this month in a €36m (£31.2m) deal from Trabzonspor.
The Turkish side quickly turned to Onana as an experienced replacement and believes he can have an immediate impact.
Manchester United’s signing of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day paved the way for either Onana or Altay Bayindir to move on, as head coach Ruben Amorim looks to streamline his squad despite Old Trafford officials initially insisting they were comfortable with four senior goalkeepers.
Onana, 28, endured a mixed debut season at United but remains highly rated, and the loan is viewed as an opportunity for him to rebuild confidence with his playing time.
