Despite failing medical tests to join Serie A giants AC Milan, Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has secured a season-long loan move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen.
The 24-year-old completed the switch on the final day of the German summer transfer window, passing his examinations in Bremen and signing all the necessary paperwork.
Werder’s sporting director, Peter Niemeyer, confirmed the deal is a straight loan without a purchase option.
“We are delighted to have completed this loan and to be able to count on Victor’s services. He has delivered outstanding performances in the Bundesliga and showcased all his qualities. We are convinced he can continue to develop here with us,” Niemeyer said.
Boniface joined Leverkusen in 2023 and made an immediate impact with his physical presence, intelligent movement, and clinical finishing. However, competition for starting places in Xabi Alonso’s attack limited his playing time with the German champions.
The move to Bremen now provides the Nigerian international with a fresh opportunity to secure regular minutes and lead the line in a team keen to strengthen its attack.
