Ozioma Okonkwo, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of OOBIUKU Clothing, has been named the African Emerging CEO of the Year at the 4th Annual Africa CEO Summit in Lagos.
The summit, held at the Oriental Hotel Ballroom, was themed “Business Beyond Borders: Building a Global Brand” and brought together senior executives and business leaders from across the continent. The award recognises Okonkwo’s leadership and her role in shaping Africa’s fashion industry through her work at OOBIUKU Clothing.
The Africa CEO Summit is organised by the Pan African Youth Leadership Foundation, a continental body that promotes leadership and entrepreneurship among young Africans. The Foundation uses its annual awards to highlight executives who contribute to Africa’s growth and international presence.
Okonkwo received her certificate of recognition from Salako Adebowale, Founder and Executive Director of the Pan African Youth Leadership Foundation. The award commends her as an executive making a measurable global impact.
Since establishing OOBIUKU Clothing in 2017, Okonkwo has led the creation of more than 1,000 bespoke bridal and couture pieces for clients in Nigeria and abroad. The brand is known for designs that reflect cultural heritage while appealing to an international market. Much of the company’s growth has come from referrals and repeat customers, building a loyal global clientele.
Speaking at the ceremony, Okonkwo said, “Receiving this award is an affirmation of the power of African creativity and entrepreneurship. OOBIUKU was built on the belief that fashion is more than style; it is a tool for empowerment, cultural storytelling, and global connection. This recognition motivates me to continue pushing boundaries and creating opportunities for others in the industry.”
Under Okonkwo’s leadership, OOBIUKU Clothing has grown into one of Africa’s recognised couture brands, contributing to the visibility of African fashion on the global stage. Her recognition at the summit reflects the wider role of women entrepreneurs in Africa’s creative economy and the sector’s potential to generate jobs, investment, and international partnerships.
The Africa CEO Summit continues to serve as a platform for business leaders to exchange ideas and strategies for expanding African enterprises beyond the continent. By awarding figures such as Okonkwo, the event underscores the importance of leadership in driving innovation and building sustainable businesses.
