…as Alfred, suspended deputy chief whip, emerges speaker
Having suspected impeachment move by the lawmakers loyal to Governor Hyacinth Alia, Aondona Hyacinth Dajoh, Speaker of Benue State Assembly, on Sunday, resigned as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
The speaker’s resignation decision, which was made known through a letter written by the immediate speaker addressed to the clerk of the House, might not be unconnected with the the House’s failure to confirm two Commissioner-nominees sent to the State House of Assembly by Governor Hyacinth Alia for screening and subsequent confirmation.
Recall that following the Benue State House of Assembly’s refusal to honour correspondence sent in from Governor Hyacinth Alia, seeking the screening and confirmation of nominees for Commissionership in the State Executive Council during a plenary presided by the erstwhile speaker, Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.
But, while appreciating his colleagues, in the letter, for granting him the great opportunities to perform as speaker, Dajoh, explained that his resignation was a decision to let peace reign in the Legislative Arm of the Government in the State.
‘I write to resign my position as the Speaker of the Benue State Assembly with effect from today, 24th August 2025’. This is done in good faith with the interest of the State”, the letter read.
Meanwhile, Berger Emberga Alfred, the former Deputy Chief Whip of the Benue State House of Assembly, who was recently suspended by the immediate past Speaker of the Benue Assembly, Dajoh was inaugurated by the clerk of the House as the newly-elected speaker of the House.
