Moshood Abiola Obatula, widely recognised in the film industry as The Dark Visionary, is set to release two major projects in 2024 – The Godfather Show and Agemo. The filmmaker, known for his focus on African heritage and culture, is presenting the productions under his company, Related Motion.
The Godfather Show is a television series that explores questions of power, legacy, and African identity in a contemporary setting. The cast features Denrele Edun, Moet Abebe, Ric Hassani, Seun Kuti, and Venita Akpofure. Each performer brings a distinctive background to the production, with Hassani’s music and Kuti’s political voice adding additional layers to the storyline. The series is expected to resonate with audiences across multiple demographics while contributing to the growing demand for African narratives in global television.
Alongside the series, Obatula is also preparing Agemo, a film rooted in Yoruba folklore. The production engages with themes of spirituality, tradition, and cultural transitions. Starring Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, and Uzoamaka Onuoha, the project combines established industry figures with emerging talent. The film aims to capture the tension between indigenous beliefs and present-day realities, opening discussions about cultural continuity and transformation.
Speaking on the direction of the projects, Obatula has positioned Related Motion as a company intent on bridging storytelling with technology and cultural representation. With The Godfather Show, the goal is to align Nollywood productions with internationally recognised television formats, while Agemo offers a platform to showcase folklore in ways that appeal to local and global audiences.
Industry watchers have noted that the two works could shift the landscape of Nollywood and broader African cinema by combining cultural depth with modern production practices. For Obatula, the projects mark not only a professional milestone but also a statement on the future of African storytelling in film and television.
As anticipation builds for both releases, The Godfather Show and Agemo highlight the growing ambition within Nollywood to reach wider audiences while staying grounded in cultural identity.
