Eegunleti, a 1986 Yoruba classic movie is set for remake in cinemas, says Omilan Productions Ltd, a UK-based film production company.
Oluyinka Omilani, director and Producer, disclosed that the heritage of the title, Eegunleti, is deeply tied to the Omilani family, and that the remains a signature project of Omilan Productions, ensuring that the name, history, and creative vision are celebrated authentically.
The movie, which is referred to as a multi-generational legacy that carefully preserve the story’s cultural roots while reintroducing it to new audiences worldwide, was directed by Oluyinka Omilani, and co-produced by Oluyinka Omilani and Wale Muraina.
Omilani, who recently shared his vision and creative approach for the project, emphasised the importance of honouring the original ideas while delivering a contemporary cinematic experience.
According to him, Eegunleti, which was originally shot on celluloid and produced in 1986 by the late Moses Omilani, was a cultural landmark of its era, and stood out for its artistic depth and technical innovation.
He also disclosed that principal photography was wrapped up in March 2025, with filming completed in both Nigeria and the UK, and that the film is now in its final stage of post-production.
According to him, nearly four decades later, Eegunleti returns to the big screen under the creative direction of his son, Oluyinka Omilani, as the producer, director, and head of Omilan Productions Ltd.
“The remake of Eegunleti features a stellar cast including Lateef Adedimeji, Omowunmi Dada, Atlanta Bridget, Uzor Arukwe, Dele Odule, Femi Branch, Yinka Quadri, Femi Adebayo, Ibrahim Chata, Bimbo Akintola, Jide Kosoko, Akin Lewis, Moji Afolayan, Razak Olayiwola, and, in a special appearance, the original Eegunleti himself, Moses Omilani.”
