The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited says it has comissioned 113 kilometres (km) portion of the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) gas pipeline project.
The 127-kilometre Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Gas Pipeline is aimed to facilitate seamless supply of gas across the country.
Disclosing this in its monthly report for July 2025, the company said that the pipeline has commenced transportation of 300mmscf/d of gas from two gas producers including: AHL and Platform, Chorus and Xenergi.
It also explained that it has commenced implementation of revised execution strategy towards expedited completion of OB3 River Niger Crossing. “113km portion of OB3 Gas Pipeline has been commissioned and flowing about 300mmscf/d of gas from the following gas producers including: AHL 250 mmscf/d and Platform, Chorus and Xenergi – 50 mmscf/d.”
The company also stated that additional subcontractors have been deployed to expedite completion of additional subcontractors deployed to expedite completion of the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano project.

Speaking on the progress made in delivering these project, Ekperikpe Ekpo, minister of state for petroleum resources (gas), in a recent engagement said that the OB3 Gas Pipeline, now nearing completion with the River Niger crossing in its final stages. He said that the project will soon connect East–West gas supply and ensure seamless movement from production hubs to demand centres nationwide.
“At the same time, the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline remains a top priority, as its completion will be a game-changer for domestic utilisation, industrial growth, and regional energy security. In addition, we are supporting gas processing plants, virtual pipeline systems, and distribution networks to expand access to LPG and CNG for households and transport, ensuring gas reaches even the most remote communities.

“Beyond domestic projects, regionally, our pipeline diplomacy is bearing fruit. We are committed to the long-standing West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP), which continues to deliver gas from Nigeria to our West African neighbours. Furthermore, the African – Atlantic Gas Pipeline, also known as the Nigeria–Morocco Gas Pipeline (NMGP), spanning over 5,000 kilometres and linking over a dozen countries, is advancing steadily,” he said.
