A Nigerian entrepreneur is using digital platforms to expand his business and connect with young people across Africa.
Umeneanya Emmanuel Chibueze, known as Emmajuba Wigs, has grown from running a small salon in Lagos to becoming a recognised name on TikTok. With more than 63,000 followers and close to one million likes, his videos showcase wig-making processes, client transformations, and short lessons on hair styling.
“I never set out to be famous,” he says. “I just wanted to create beautiful work and make people feel confident in their own skin.”
Emmajuba’s online growth reflects a wider trend among young Africans who are turning to digital media to share their skills and build direct links with audiences. His work has attracted attention not only in Nigeria but also in countries such as South Sudan, where his content continues to gain traction.
Unlike many in the beauty industry who rely on celebrity endorsements, Emmajuba has built his following through short, consistent videos that highlight everyday work. His clients and followers see him as both a stylist and an example of how creativity and persistence can create opportunities.
Beyond styling, his TikTok presence shows how African youth are creating spaces to share personal stories, build community, and take control of their visibility. For many, Emmajuba represents the shift towards self-made influence, where success is defined by audience connection rather than traditional recognition.
His business now extends beyond the salon, with a direct-to-customer pipeline through WhatsApp and repeat clients who discover his work online.
Founded by Chibueze, Emmajuba Wigs focuses on wig design, hair styling, and client empowerment. The brand continues to demonstrate how small businesses can use digital tools to grow while shaping conversations about identity and entrepreneurship across Africa.
