The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the passing of Taofik Obasanjo Coker, Nigeria’s Consul General in Buea, Republic of Cameroon.
He died on Saturday, August 16, 2025, after a brief illness.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Ministry’s spokesperson, the government described Coker’s death as a painful and unexpected loss to Nigeria and the diplomatic community.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces, with deep sorrow, the sudden demise of Taofik Obasanjo Coker, the Consul General of Nigeria in Buea, Republic of Cameroon, who unfortunately passed on after a brief illness on Saturday, 16th August 2025,” the statement read.
Coker was celebrated as a seasoned and hardworking career diplomat whose service to the nation spanned several decades.
His foreign service record included postings at Nigeria’s missions in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China, before he was appointed Consul General in Buea, Cameroon.
The Ministry noted that his dedication and professionalism distinguished him throughout his career, earning him respect from colleagues at home and abroad.
Describing his death as “a significant loss to the nation,” the Ministry extended heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends, while also offering prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.
