Fieldbase, an engineering company that specialises in using digital technologies for maritime solutions, is betting on advanced connectivity to help West African nations tighten control of their waters as trade volumes expand and maritime risks grow.
At a recent industry session, Anointed Olatunde, the company’s Solutions Development Engineer, unveiled a new suite of surveillance tools designed to give coastal authorities faster, sharper responses to security threats.
The system combines high-bandwidth satellite and terrestrial communications with intelligent monitoring software, enabling authorities to track vessel movements with precision, detect illegal activity almost instantly, and dispatch patrol units before incidents spiral.
“Every second counts in maritime security,” Olatunde said. “With reliable, continuous data flows, we can ensure that incidents are identified and acted upon before they escalate.”
The company says its approach is tailored to persistent challenges in the region, from piracy and illegal fishing to smuggling and environmental violations. Unlike conventional tools, the platform is designed to function seamlessly in both deep-sea and nearshore environments.
Olatunde also disclosed ongoing and planned partnerships with ports, customs agencies, and regional security networks aimed at modernising surveillance infrastructure across the coast.
