The ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano state, as well as the opposition political party in the state, the All-Progressives Congress (APC), have both won a constituency each in the weekend by, and re-run elections held in the state.
Declaring the result of the keenly contested re-election in Tsanyawa-Ghari State Constituency, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday night declared Ali Alasan of the NNPP as winner, defeating the candidate of the APC with a decisive margin.
Muhammad Waziri, the returning officer for the election from Bayero University, announced the result on Sunday morning, disclosed that supplementary election was held after the earlier exercise in the constituency was declared inconclusive.

Waziri said Garba Gwarmai of the APC polled 31,472 votes to defeat Yusuf Maigado of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who scored 27,931 votes.
Despite losing the supplementary poll, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won the Bagwai/Shanono state constituency by-election in Kano.
Hassan Adamu Shitu, returning officer for the election, said Ali Hassan Kiyawa of the NNPP scored 16,198 votes to defeat Ahmad Muhammad Kadamu of the APC who polled 5,347 votes.
