Gbenga Biobaku & Co. (GBC), in collaboration with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), successfully hosted an industry workshop themed “Counterfeit Threats and Intellectual Property Protection: Ensuring Brand Integrity in Nigeria’s Manufacturing Industry.” The event was held at MAN House, Ikeja, and drew key stakeholders from Nigeria’s regulatory, legal, and manufacturing communities.
The industry workshop, held at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) House in Ikeja, centred on how legal, regulatory, and technological tools can be deployed to protect intellectual property and safeguard brand integrity.
In his opening remarks, MAN’s Director General, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, called for stronger coordination between manufacturers and regulators, warning that counterfeiting poses both economic and reputational risks. Gbenga Biobaku, Senior Partner at Gbanga Biobaku & Co. further stressed the economic and reputational risks posed by counterfeiting, urging industry players to prioritise brand protection.
Keynote speakers included Peter Dada of Unilever Nigeria Plc; Kunle Ojo of NAFDAC; and Wole Tejuoso, head of GBC’s intellectual property practice. They highlighted enforcement gaps, regulatory frameworks, and the vital role of intellectual property in combating counterfeiting.
Following the keynote addresses, a panel session moderated by GBC partner Anita Ezike brought together representatives from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Nigeria Customs Service, NAFDAC, MAN, and private legal practice. The discussion focused on cross-agency collaboration and practical enforcement challenges.
The event ended with a Q&A session and networking cocktail, with participants praising the interactive format of the workshop, while stressing the need for sustained engagement to curb counterfeiting in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.
