Manchester United have completed the signing of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in a deal worth £73.7 million.
The 22-year-old Slovenia international has signed a five-year contract, with the transfer comprising a guaranteed payment of £66.3 million and the remainder in performance-related add-ons.
He becomes Man United’s third major attacking signing this summer, following Matheus Cunha (£62.5 million) and Bryan Mbeumo (£65 million plus £6 million in add-ons).
Sesko, who was also a target for Newcastle United, opted to join Ruben Amorim’s side. United endured a difficult campaign last season, finishing 15th in the Premier League, while Newcastle ended fifth, qualifying for the Champions League and lifting the EFL Cup.
“The history of Manchester United is obviously very special, but what really excites me is the future,” Sesko said.
“From the moment I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment the club has created. It is the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil my ambitions. I can’t wait to work with Ruben and my teammates to achieve the success we know we are capable of.”
Sesko joined Leipzig from sister club RB Salzburg in 2023, scoring 39 goals in 87 games across all competitions, with eight assists.
In the Bundesliga, he netted 27 goals in 64 appearances, making him the top goalscorer under the age of 23 in Europe’s top five leagues – one ahead of Jude Bellingham and five clear of Florian Wirtz, who joined Liverpool this summer for an initial £100m.
A powerful and rapid forward, Sesko boasts the highest aerial success rate among Bundesliga strikers, winning 57.4% of duels.
Only six forwards have scored more goals in the league over the past two seasons, despite Sesko ranking 16th for expected goals, 14th for shots, and 22nd for touches in the opposition box.
