The Federal Government has said that it is targeting over N300 billion annually to be injected into the economy with the distribution of 5 million seedlings in 2025.
Alhaji Saleh Abubakar, the Director General of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, (NAGGW) stated this at the flag off of Shelterbelts and other plantations by the Agency in Maimalari village, Yusufari council area of Yobe State.
According to him, he said the federal government has kick-started the distribution of 5 million seedlings with projected production of date palm to hit 500 million kilograms.
He maintained, “It is important to note that 5 million seedlings of date palm have been produced by our Agency. These seedlings will be distributed across the 11 frontline states aimed at boosting the economic status of these states.

He added,”Each seedlings has a capacity to produce 100 kilograms of date worth N1 million in the market. And each date palm produce twice annually. Our projection shows that over N300 billion would be generated by those farmers, which will indeed improve the economic status of our country.”
The Director General of NAGGW said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the forest economy and contributing to Nigeria’s target of generating over N300 billions forest-based economy in the 11 frontline states.
He added that the date palm would boost economic activities and strengthen resilience against climate change impacts in Yobe and 11 other states.
He further said the 2025 tree planting campaign was parts of activities marking the 10th anniversary of the Agency.
