Manchester United have submitted a formal offer worth £73.8million for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.
The bid includes a guaranteed payment of £65.2million, with the rest structured in add-ons. While the Red Devils are yet to receive a response from Leipzig, the club believes the offer reflects fair market value for the 22-year-old Slovenian forward, who is reportedly eager to make the switch to Old Trafford.
Premier League rivals Newcastle United are also in the race for Sesko, having lodged a separate bid in the region of £69.5million. Talks are ongoing between the Magpies and RB Leipzig, with both clubs now locked in a tug-of-war over one of Europe’s most promising young strikers.
Manchester United’s move is seen as significant, particularly as there had been internal hesitation about firming up their interest without clarity on Sesko’s willingness to join. That green light has now reportedly been given.
To accommodate the potential arrival, United are prepared to offload Danish striker Rasmus Højlund, who joined the club just last summer in a £72million deal.
The decision underscores United’s intent to refresh its frontline with a more physically imposing option. Sesko has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for Leipzig.
Despite recent financial concerns highlighted by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, sources at the club insist that the Sesko deal is viable.
The Red Devils have already structured other summer deals, such as those for Matheus Cunha (Wolves) and Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford), totalling £130million, in a financially manageable way.
