Residents and commuters plying the Ogbagi-Irun Akoko to Ado-Ekiti Federal highway have taken to the streets in protest against the deplorable state of the road which they said had become a death trap.

BusinessDay reports that Ogbagi, a rural community in Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, where residents are protesting the deteriorating condition of the Ikare-Ogbagi-Irun Akoko road, is a major federal highway linking Ondo and Ekiti States.

According to the protesters, the 40.2-kilometer stretch of road has long been abandoned by the contractor, leaving it in a state of total disrepair and unmotorable.
According to them, the road has claimed lives, caused serious accidents, and damaged vehicles and property.
Some of the commuters and residents, who spoke with journalists, called on the Federal Government to take swift action in addressing the hardship faced by commuters.
Wasiu Owolabi, the Federal Controller of Works in charge of the project, while reacting to the protest, called for calm and assured that the ongoing road project would be completed in due course in order to alleviate the suffering of the people.
