Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, received a rousing welcome on Monday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, following their historic fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title win in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The reigning champions defeated Mali 78–64 in Sunday’s final at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, securing their seventh continental title and extending their astonishing AfroBasket unbeaten streak to 29 games, a run that began in 2015.

Excited fans, officials of the National Sports Commission, and representatives from the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) gathered at the airport to celebrate the team’s remarkable achievement.
D’Tigress’ dominant performance throughout the tournament once again affirmed their position as the undisputed queens of African basketball. Their victory follows closely on the heels of another sporting triumph, with the Super Falcons recently winning a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The team is scheduled to proceed to the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, where President Bola Tinubu will officially receive the players and coaching crew in recognition of their outstanding accomplishment.
