Uzoamaka Nwifuru, the wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, has donated fully-furnished residential buildings to 26 indigent widows across the 13 Local Government Areas of the State.
The initiative, executed through her Pet Project under Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO), aims to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable women in rural communities.
Each of the beneficiaries received a three-bedroom bungalow equipped with modern facilities, including toilets and kitchens, symbolising a fresh start and a dignified standard of living.
Nwifuru, in her remarks during the inauguration of one of the houses at Ameka, in Ezza South Local Government Area, reiterated that the gesture aligns with the People’s Charter of Needs of the current administration and reflects the core vision of her BERWO Foundation.
“I do not know any of the beneficiaries personally,” she explained. “This is not about familiarity but about fulfilling the promise I made during the 2023 campaign—to use my office to positively impact the lives of underprivileged women in Ebonyi State.”
Earlier, Francis Ori, Ebonyi State Commissioner for Housing, while speaking at the event, pointed that the homes were built to standards and equipped with modern amenities, ensuring comfort and long-term sustainability.
Commending the first lady, Christiana Nwankwo, one of the beneficiaries, expressed her overwhelming gratitude.
Speaking through her brother-in-law, Jesophat Nwankwo, she described the gift as a “miracle” she never imagined it could happen.
“I never believed I would be remembered by the government. This is truly impressive and life-changing,” she said.
This humanitarian gesture by the First Lady marks a significant milestone in social welfare delivery in Ebonyi State and is expected to deepen community trust and support for the administration’s grassroots development agenda.
