Check Point Research has revealed a 21 percent surge in Global Cyber Attacks in the second quarter of 2025, as the education sector remains the most targeted with an average of 4,388 weekly attacks per organisation.
The education sector recorded a 31 percent year-on-year increase, highlighting growing concerns about the sector’s cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
The global average weekly number of attacks per organisation in Q2 reached 1,984, which indicates a 21 percent increase from the same period in 2024 and a 58 percent rise compared to 2023, according to Check Point Research.
Africa recorded the highest attack volume as the continent emerged as the most targeted region by volume, with organisations experiencing an average of 3,365 weekly attacks, up 14 percent year-on-year. Asia-Pacific followed with 2,874 weekly attacks (+15 percent YoY), and Latin America with 2,803 (+5 percent YoY).

Although Europe did not top the volume chart but it saw the steepest growth in attack frequency, with a 22 percent year-on-year increase, which analysts attribute to a mix of geopolitical tensions, data-rich environments, and fragmented regulations, which are factors that cybercriminals continue to exploit.
The education sector was most affected by cyber attacks in Q2 2025, facing over 4,300 weekly threats per organisation caused by a combination of weak security infrastructure and the high value of stored data, such as student records and personal credentials.
Other heavily targeted sectors included Government: 2,632 weekly attacks per organisation (+26 percent YoY) and Telecommunications: 2,612 weekly attacks per organisation (+38 percent YoY).
Industries most impacted by ransomware attacks included business services, industrial manufacturing, and construction and engineering, the report stated.
