The Chairman, House Committee on Nigeria-US Relations/inter-parliamentary Relations, Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, has lamented that 50 percent of Nigeria’s mobile capacity is under-utilized due to lack of service.
Agbonayinma, a member of the House of Representatives, pointed out that available facts on smart device connectivity in Nigeria indicate that 125 million smart device users are not getting consistent network connectivity from a single provider.
The lawmaker representing Egor/Ikpoba-okha Federal Constituency in Edo State, stated this in Abuja on Tuesday while unveiling CloudCover, a pioneer provider of multi-network mobile data services.
The legislator said the device will revolutionise the telecoms industry and create a lot of jobs for Nigerian youths.
Agbonayinma expressed regret that despite great advancements recorded in the Western world in an age of information technology, Africa is still lagging in the area of mobile capacity.
“Available facts on smart device connectivity in Nigeria indicate that 125 million smart device users are not getting consistent network connectivity from a single provider while 50 percent of the country’s mobile capacity is under-utilized due to lack of service,” he said.
The lawmaker who described Nigeria as a fertile ground for business, encouraged more investors to come and explore the opportunities in the country, just as he emphasised the job opportunities such investments will generate.
He further said all the benefits are not restricted to Nigeria alone, stressing that the new product has partners with multiple international service providers in over 100 countries, including the United States and United Kingdom which enables browsing and constant connectivity.
Speaking earlier, the founder and CEO, Cloud Cover Distribution, Nick Dixon, posited that mobile data which used to be luxury is now a necessity.
He said with the new product, there is now an ability to switch and travel abroad without having to carry many phones and gadgets.
He said the focus of the product is to ensure that consumers enjoy domestic connectivity and quick traveling.
