Christopher Musa, Minister of Defence, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to education, describing it as the most potent instrument for building a strong, united and progressive Nigeria.
Musa made this known on Wednesday, while receiving members of the National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) during a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Defence headquarters at Ship House, Abuja.
According to the Defence Minister, sustainable national development is only achievable through quality education that not only imparts knowledge but also moulds character, discipline and responsible citizenship.

“Education goes far beyond classroom learning,” Musa said. “It requires strong collaboration among schools, parents and communities to produce well-rounded citizens who can contribute meaningfully to national growth.”
He stressed that parents and teachers play complementary roles in a child’s development, describing them as the “twin pillars” responsible for shaping values, character and future potential.
“The home and the classroom jointly define the moral compass of the child,” the Minister noted, calling on parents to assume greater responsibility in guiding, informing and disciplining their children. He added that sound moral values and good upbringing are indispensable for raising citizens who will positively impact society.
Musa further highlighted the Federal Government’s investments in the education sector, noting that progress recorded so far is a product of collective effort. He acknowledged the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) as a critical component of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC), praising its consistent and impactful contributions to school development and governance nationwide.
Earlier, the leader of the NAPTAN delegation, Haruna Danjuma, National President of the association, commended President Bola Tinubu, for creating an enabling environment for the Defence Minister to excel in his duties.
Danjuma described Musa’s appointment as divinely inspired, saying it was not a coincidence but a purposeful decision aimed at strengthening national service and addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
He expressed confidence in the Minister’s capacity to deliver on his mandate, noting that his experience and leadership qualities have positioned him well for the task.
He explained that the Excellence Award was bestowed on the Minister in recognition of his strategic leadership, dedication to institutional development and sustained support for initiatives that enhance national security and defence capacity.
According to Danjuma, the award also reflects the Minister’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation, noting that under his stewardship, the Ministry of Defence has continued to implement policies and reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture while promoting sustainable national development.
The highlight of the event was the formal presentation of the Award of Excellence to Musa by the NAPTAN National President.
In his vote of thanks, Richard Pheelangwah, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, congratulated the Minister on the well-deserved honour, describing it as a testament to his tireless efforts in promoting peace, security and the protection of future generations.
Pheelangwah also lauded NAPTAN for its collaboration with the Ministry of Defence in nurturing discipline, patriotism and civic responsibility among Nigerian youths, stressing that such partnerships are laying a solid foundation for a stronger, safer and more united country.
