Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has applauded the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their dogged display despite their semi-final defeat to host nation Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Super Eagles were edged out 4–2 on penalties after a tense contest that ended goalless following regulation time and extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

In a post on his X handle, the former Anambra State governor described the encounter as a fierce battle and commended the players for giving their all.
“Dearest gallant Super Eagles, it was a battle well fought, and heads were not bowed,” Obi wrote.
“Thank you for a beautiful 120 minutes of incredible play. You showed your strength and prowess against all odds.

“The journey is not over. You have made the nation proud. Keep your heads high; the Eagle never stopped soaring.
“There is another stage; let’s go get that medal. You have done well,” he added.
The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to Saturday’s third-place play-off against Egypt in Casablanca.
