The leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has denied reports suggesting that he endorsed the alleged defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement made available by Ladipo Johnson, the national publicity secretary of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Ladipo Johnson, Kwankwaso described the report as false, misleading, and lacking any factual basis.
Media reports had claimed that the former Kano Governor in a message on Facebook had decided to change his opposition to Governor Yusuf’s defection to the ruling party for the sake of peace in the state.
According to the statement, the senator was reacting to a publication by the said online newspaper, which claimed that he had supported or approved the purported defection of Governor Yusuf from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC.

“The attention of the public has been drawn to a misleading report published by an online newspaper and not the Nigerian Tribune, claiming that our revered national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has endorsed or supported the alleged defection of the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress.
“We wish to state unequivocally that this report is false, misleading, and entirely without factual basis,” the statement read.
The statement stressed that Kwankwaso remains firmly committed to the ideals, vision, and principles of the NNPP, noting that Governor Yusuf was elected on the party’s platform and remains a member with a responsibility to uphold the mandate freely given to him by the people of Kano State.
The statement further emphasised that at no time did Kwankwaso endorse, support, or express approval of any alleged move by Governor Yusuf to join the APC, describing reports to the contrary as a deliberate misrepresentation of facts.
Ladipo urged members of the public, party supporters, and the media to disregard the report and rely only on verified and credible sources for accurate information.
