The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened a formal disciplinary investigation into alleged misconduct during the quarter-final matches between Algeria vs Nigeria and Cameroon vs Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
CAF condemned what it described as “unacceptable behaviour by players and officials” and confirmed it is reviewing match reports, referee submissions and video evidence from both fixtures.

CAF findings from the preliminary review have been forwarded to its Disciplinary Board for further investigation, with sanctions to be applied if individuals are found to have breached competition regulations or acted in an unprofessional manner.
In addition, the continental body revealed that it is reviewing video footage showing alleged misconduct involving journalists in the mixed zone following Nigeria’s 2–0 victory over Algeria in Marrakech.

CAF stressed that incidents involving media personnel would be treated with the same level of seriousness as those involving players, officials or technical staff.
“CAF has referred the matters to the Disciplinary Board for investigation and has called for appropriate action to be taken if the identified persons are found guilty of any wrongdoing,” the statement read.
“CAF is also reviewing footage of an incident involving members of the media who allegedly misbehaved in the mixed zone area.”
Referee Issa Sy was escorted off the field after being confronted by angry Algerian officials, with video clips showing him being pursued into the mixed zone reserved for media and broadcasters.
The Super Eagles are currently in Fez preparing for their semi-final showdown against Morocco on Wednesday, January 14.
