Police operatives in Nasarawa State have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms following a late-night intelligence-led operation in Lafia, the state capital.
The suspects, identified as Kabiru Isah and Monday Bulus, were arrested on Saturday at about 10:00 p.m. by officers attached to the Command’s Anti-Robbery Section.
The duo had been on the police wanted list for alleged involvement in several robbery incidents across the state.
In a statement by Ramhan Nansel, issued to journalists on Sunday in Lafia said during the operation, the police recovered one G3 rifle without a serial number from the suspects.
The spokesperson explained that a follow-up operation conducted on Sunday also led to the recovery of a pump-action rifle.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had entered Lafia and were lurking around the Azuba Centre area, a suburb of Lafia Local Government Area, allegedly planning to carry out another criminal operation before they were apprehended.
Commending the operatives, the statement added that Shettima Jauro Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism, gallantry and dedication to duty in ensuring that criminal elements are apprehended before they could cause harm.

He further stated, “All officers and men of the Command must sustain the onslaught against crime and continue to deal decisively with criminals to ensure the safety and security of lives and property in Nasarawa State.”
The Police said investigations are ongoing, adding that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
