Aina Adesole, the newly-deployed Delta State Commissioner of Police says the Command has recorded major operational achievements since his assumption, which includes the arrest of suspected inter-state kidnapper, killing of another suspected kidnapper and arrest of an illegal gun-runner.
“This Command has recorded major operational successes against kidnapping, violent crime, and illegal arms trafficking resulting in the arrest of suspects and recovery of firearms, ammunition and cash”, he said.
Speaking at a media briefing, the CP said, “Acting on credible intelligence on the activities of a notorious inter-state kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate terrorizing parts of Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers State’s, the Command through the operative of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SPAT) activated a series of sustained, intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling the criminal network.

The CP said, “The operation recorded a major breakthrough on 29th December 2025, when the operatives extended investigations to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, leading to the arrest of one Abubakar Mohammed (male, adult).
“Following intensive interrogation, the suspect led operatives to a concealed bush location along Tobia Village by the Amasoma area of Airport Road, Bayelsa State, where a cache of arms was unearthed.
“Recovered from the location, buried and carefully wrapped in a sack, were: One AK-47 rifle, 76 rounds of live ammunition, Two AK-47 magazines.
“The investigation further yielded additional successes. At about 1801 hours on 2 January 2026, the suspect again guided operatives to another hidden arms dump located between the Ughelli–Warri axis at Uyamuge Forest, where one K2 rifle, 49 rounds of live ammunition, three K2 magazines, one pump-action gun, 32 live cartridges. The suspect is in custody, and investigation is ongoing.”
He disclosed that sequel to intelligence received by operatives of CP-SPAT, the team on January 6, 2026 stormed Ohoror community along Ughelli-Patani Road, where some suspected kidnappers were sighted.
“The suspects upon sighting the police opened fire, and in the ensuing gun duel one of them was hit and sustained serious gunshot injuries. Upon searching the area, one K-2 rifle, two locally made guns, live ammunition and cartridges concealed in a bag were recovered.
“The injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor duty. Manhunt for the fleeing suspect is ongoing”, he added.
