Akor Adams has left Super Eagles camp after Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), casting doubt over his availability for Saturday’s quarter-final clash against Algeria.
Adams was granted permission to visit his mother, who was admitted to the hospital shortly before Nigeria’s knockout encounter on Monday.
Despite receiving the distressing news on matchday, the Sevilla forward started the game and delivered an impressive performance.

He played 86 minutes and scored Nigeria’s fourth goal in the 75th minute with a powerful strike. The goal was Adams’ first at AFCON and his third overall for the Super Eagles.
The development was confirmed in a statement shared on the Super Eagles’ official X account.
“Akor Adams has been granted permission to leave camp to go be with his mum, who was hospitalised yesterday,” the statement reads.
“We’re sending prayers and strength to him and wishing his mum a quick recovery.”
Speaking after the match, Adams revealed that his mother had been admitted to hospital on the morning of the game and dedicated his goal to her.
“The goal is dedicated to my mum. She is supposed to be here, but she is in a hospital,” Adams said. “She was admitted this morning, but she is much better now.”
With Adams currently away from camp, his participation in Nigeria’s quarter-final tie against Algeria on Saturday remains uncertain as the Super Eagles continue their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
