Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman has moved to play down suggestions of a rift with Victor Osimhen following Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Monday night.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the winger remained composed and refused to escalate the issue, insisting that nothing significant occurred between him and his strike partner.
Footage from the match showed Osimhen appearing to confront Lookman after the Atalanta forward opted to take a direct shot rather than pass.

Shortly, the Galatasaray striker was also seen gesturing towards the bench and asking head coach Eric Chelle to substitute him.
Addressing the incident, Lookman, who was named Man of the Match, dismissed any talk of tension and stressed the strength of their relationship.
“I don’t think that is really important; the team won 4-0,” Lookman told journalists.
“Vic is my number one guy; everybody knows this. Top striker, top player. All of the rest is not important.”
Despite the on-field feud, both players were instrumental in Nigeria’s dominant display.
Osimhen scored twice to take his tournament tally to three goals, while Lookman contributed a goal and two assists as the Super Eagles booked their place in the quarter-finals with a fourth straight win.
Lookman currently leads the 2025 AFCON in goal contributions, with three goals and four assists in three matches, while Nigeria boasts the most potent attack at the tournament with 12 goals so far.
The Super Eagles will next face either Algeria or DR Congo in the quarter-finals as Nigeria aims for their fourth AFCON title.
