Fans have criticised Victor Osimhen following an on-field confrontation with teammate Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16 clash of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The incident occurred in the 63rd minute of play at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, despite Nigeria already holding a commanding lead.
Television footage showed Osimhen angrily confronting Lookman after the winger opted to take a shot instead of passing to the striker, who appeared unmarked in the penalty area.

Osimhen’s outburst triggered widespread reaction on social media, with several Nigerian fans criticising the Galatasaray striker for what they described as indiscipline and unprofessional conduct.
Some football commentators also recalled Osimhen’s 2024 social media outburst against former Super Eagles coach Finidi George over an alleged injury dispute ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

A football enthusiast, SHAYEE (@tier_1st), suggested that Osimhen’s attitude may be one reason top European clubs have been reluctant to sign him.
“A player with no discipline. He does this all the time, shouting at an important member of the squad just because the other player is calm-headed. This is one of the attitude issues Chelsea PR have complained about,” he wrote.
Another X user, His Majesty (@TalmudicSage), urged Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle to take firm action, stressing that no player should be bigger than the team.
“My unsolicited advice to Eric Chelle is simple: it may be time to send Osimhen home. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen him display such an attitude. No one should be bigger than the team. Even Messi doesn’t insult his teammates in that manner,” the post reads.
Emma Ik Umeh (@emmaikumeh) also criticised the striker, pointing out that Lookman had earlier provided an assist for Osimhen’s second goal.
“Victor Osimhen had a quarrel with his teammate, Lookman. But this same Lookman provided him with an assist for his second goal earlier. The attitude is so annoying,” he wrote.
Solomon Adedamola (@SolAdedamola) took a more measured view, suggesting the striker may need professional support.
“Osimhen needs proper psychological support; without it, even his immense talent may not be enough to sustain his career trajectory,” he posted.
