Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has acknowledged the pressure to deliver three points as Nigeria, three-time African champions, face Mozambique in Monday’s Round of 16 match.
The Franco-Malian tactician stressed that he does not want to dwell on Nigeria’s disappointing 2021 AFCON campaign, focusing instead on the present tournament.

“At every game, we want to be ambitious. We are thinking about the next game,” Chelle said at a pre-match press conference.
“Since I started this job, I’ve felt a lot of pressure. This isn’t about the NFF—it’s about the group, the staff, and me.”

Chelle emphasised that the team remains calm, united, and fully prepared for Monday’s encounter.
“We want to win the next game. If God allows us to reach the quarter-finals, we will focus on that. But now, our mind is on Mozambique, and we definitely want to win that game,” he added.
The Super Eagles impressed in the group stage, winning all three matches, though Chelle insists past setbacks are irrelevant.
“I don’t focus on what happened before. We’re always focused on what happens each day—our training, the group dynamics, how the players behave, and ourselves,” he said.
The 2025 AFCON Round of 16 clash promises to test Nigeria’s resilience as they aim to continue their unbeaten run in Morocco.
