Governor Caleb Mutfwang has assured Plateau residents of renewed hope, peace, and accelerated development as he ushered the state into 2026, describing the new year as a season of divine opportunities and transformation.
In a statewide New Year broadcast on Thursday, the governor expressed gratitude to God for sustaining Plateau through the challenges of 2025, while commiserating with families affected by violent attacks and pledging continued government support for victims and the injured.
Reflecting on governance in 2025, Mutfwang said his administration laid strong foundations through the Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability, prioritising security, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and human capital development.
“Despite the challenges we faced together in 2025 as a state and as a nation, we have every reason to give thanks to God for His steadfast love, guidance, and protection over our land and our people,” the governor said.
He noted that peace and security efforts were intensified through collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers, and faith-based leaders, leading to stronger early-warning systems and reconciliation initiatives across communities.
“In furtherance of this commitment, 1,450 personnel cutting across all the 17 local government areas were recruited and trained under Operation Rainbow to safeguard lives and property across the state,” Mutfwang stated.
The governor highlighted progress in road construction across the three senatorial zones, urban renewal in Jos and other towns, improved water supply, and rural electrification aimed at enhancing living standards.
On education and health, he said government invested heavily in school renovations, teacher recruitment, vocational training, primary healthcare upgrades, and maternal and child health services, alongside scholarships awarded to Plateau students to study abroad.
Mutfwang also pointed to sustained social intervention programmes for widows, persons with disabilities, and internally displaced persons, while reaffirming agriculture, small businesses, tourism, and investment as key drivers of economic diversification.
Looking ahead, the governor outlined 2026 priorities including deeper peacebuilding, accelerated infrastructure delivery, digital education, expanded healthcare, job creation, and inclusive governance that promotes youth and gender participation.
He called on residents to reject division and violence, assured them of transparency amid recent political developments, and reaffirmed his commitment to serving with integrity, while thanking the Federal Government and development partners for their support.
