Ignatius Kaigama, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Diocese, has called on the government to lead with integrity and courage, in line with the ethos of Christmas.
Kaigama in a monitored interview on Christmas also called on Nigerians to reject violence, hatred, and corruption, as they mark this year’s Christmas.
“As we celebrate Christmas, we need to reflect on its message and let it challenge us to positive action. The government bears a special responsibility to lead with integrity and courage, but the citizens, too, must reject violence, hatred, corruption, and indifference,” he stated.
The cleric also challenge religious leaders in the country to speak truth to power in fulfillment of their divine calling.

“We are called to speak truth, defend the vulnerable, and work together to rebuild trust and hope. The scriptures assure us that righteousness exalts a nation,” Kaigama stated.
He also urged political leaders across the country against prioritising the 2027 elections but should concentrate on a more urgent national challenge of restoring security and safeguarding the lives of citizens.
“A country gripped by pervasive insecurity cannot meaningfully debate political succession, economic reform, or democratic consolidation, because fear and instability erode the very foundations upon which governance and electoral legitimacy rest.”
Touching on the new tax laws, Kaigama said the Federal Government should deliberately anchored the January 1, 2026 implementation on a human-centred approach that prioritises the enhancement of life rather than its further degradation.
