The Ojuelegba bridge inward National Stadium, Surulere in Lagos state has been temporarily closed to vehicular traffic following the collapse of a fully laden 40-foot containerised truck, which fell onto its side on the bridge.
In the early hours of Wednesday, December 24, 2025, a loaded mack 40ft containerised truck overturned and fell on its side on the bridge inward the national stadium, completely denying access to other vehicles.
On the official X handle of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, public affairs and enlightenment department of LASTMA, said that the container completely blocked the road while descending the bridge and blocked access to other vehicles on the bridge, saying, “No casualty was recorded, and all vehicular movements from Fadeyi, Onipan have been diverted through the service lane at Ojuelegba, to burst out to Barracks to connect Funso Williams Avenue.”
Taofiq also stated that rigorous effort to evacuate it off the bridge is ongoing.
“LASTMA officials are presently on ground with equipment and actively coordinating necessary emergency and recovery measures to ensure the safe and prompt evacuation of the affected truck.
“In the interim and pending the conclusion of the evacuation exercise, motorists heading towards the Stadium axis are advised to divert under the Ojuelegba Bridge, inward Stadium, to facilitate traffic flow and minimise congestion,” he said.
He further stated that updates on developments will be communicated.
