Shetima Jauro Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command on Tuesday directed intensified security operations across the state to guarantee a peaceful and hitch-free Yuletide celebration.
The directive followed a strategic meeting between the Commissioner of Police and Area Commanders, Squadron and Operational Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, as well as Heads of Tactical Units across the state.
The meeting was held in compliance with the directive of Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, mandating all police commands nationwide to strengthen security during the festive period.
Addressing senior officers in Lafia, Shetima ordered relentless raids on identified criminal hideouts and flashpoints, alongside intensified confidence-building patrols and enhanced visibility policing across Nasarawa State.
According to him, “The Command must sustain aggressive operations against criminal elements and ensure that our presence is felt in all parts of the state throughout the Yuletide season”; he said.
The police boss charged officers and men of the Command to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism, discipline, and dedication in order to maintain law and order.
He also reiterated the existing ban on the use, sale, and possession of knockouts and other explosive devices, warning that the Command would enforce the ban strictly.
“Parents and guardians must caution their children and wards, as anyone found violating this ban will be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law,” the CP warned.
He emphasized that the measures were aimed at preventing avoidable accidents, criminal activities, and breaches of public peace during the festive period.
The CP reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property before, during, and after the Yuletide celebration, while urging the public to cooperate with the police by providing timely and useful information.
