The Plateau State Police Command at the weekend launched a massive awareness and sensitisation campaign aimed at curbing crime and social vices across communities in the state.
The initiative, which commenced in Jenta–Makeri community of Jos North Local Government Area, is part of efforts to strengthen public trust and enhance community safety.
The campaign was carried out with strong backing from Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Plateau state command, who emphasised the importance of proactive policing and community participation in tackling insecurity.

Officers of the Command took the message directly to residents through face-to-face engagement.
During the exercise, police officers distributed flyers and pamphlets while engaging community members in meaningful dialogue on crime prevention and moral responsibility.
The sensitisation drive focused on discouraging criminal activities and other social vices that threaten peace and development.
The campaign was anchored on the Police Campaign Against Crime and Other Vices (POCACOV), an initiative of Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The programme is designed to eradicate crime and harmful behaviours across the country, particularly among young people.
Addressing residents of Jenta Community, Adesina urged them to actively support the Police and other law enforcement agencies in the collective fight against criminality.
He stressed that crime can only be effectively tackled through a strong partnership between security agencies and the community.
The CP, further called on parents and guardians to embrace the IGP’s “Catch Them Young” policy, which aims to positively shape the mindset of children and youths against crime and social vices. He noted that early moral guidance remains key to long-term societal stability.
The Commissioner also encouraged citizens to break the culture of silence by reporting suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods. According to him, indifference and fear only give room for crime and social vices to thrive within communities.
He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across Plateau State. The Police, he said, will continue to adopt both preventive and intelligence-driven strategies to sustain peace and order.
The Plateau State Police Command further called on all well-meaning citizens to join the fight against crime by remaining vigilant and cooperative.
