Baze University, Abuja team has recorded a major academic achievement after winning the 2025 Chartered Global Management Accountants’ (CGMA) Business Leader Challenge, a highly competitive global business simulation competition, after accumulating the most points for a great presentation at the finals.
The team from Baze University was adjudged the best team at the competition held at the Nigeria British Chamber of Commerce building in Lekki, Lagos.
With 296 points, Baze University defeated Covenant University and Thomas Adewunmi University to win the N1,000,000 prize money.
Ijeoma Anadozie, Country Director, the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, speaking about the competition, said, “We are pleased at the success of this year’s competition and we congratulate the amazing teams that participated, particularly the finalists and the eventual winners. We also want to thank the judges and our sponsors,”
“CIMA will continue to be at the forefront of providing the necessary support for the growth of future leaders in finance and business. Hosting the latest edition of the CGMA Business Leader
Challenge is a proud moment for us and we remain committed, through the challenge, to engage the youth and help them exhibit their talents early on,” Anadozie added.
The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants-organised CGMA Business Leader Challenge is an exciting regional business competition among university students aimed at aspiring finance and business leaders by CIMA, the world’s leading and largest professional body of management accountants.
The competition invites teams from participating schools to tackle real-world business challenges and present their solutions to a panel of Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA designation holders) and seasoned accounting, finance, and business professionals.
The CGMA Business Leader Challenge offers young Nigerian talents a valuable platform to sharpen their business acumen, strengthen their leadership and decision-making capabilities, and enhance their critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills, while showcasing their potential as future finance and business leaders.
This year’s competition, which started in October, had 60 teams from 10 universities in the country competing to win the mouth-watering prizes, including the N1 million prize money, access to the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme, and an internship opportunity with a leading corporate organisation.
Baze University’s victory is well deserved and a testament to consistency considering that the university has remained a strong competitor in the CGMA Challenges. In 2023, the university made the finals but fell short at the last hurdle. This year, the team from Baze University finally crossed the line ahead of 60 other teams.
