…Heads to AFCON with winning mentality
Nigeria’s Calvin Bassey will be heading to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a winner mentality after restoring Fulham’s lead at Burnley on Saturday.
The Nigerian full back will be expected to replicate similar form for the Super Eagles in Morocco after missing out of the 2026 World Cup.
Fulham left Turf Moor with all three points, inflicting a seventh straight league defeat for Scott Parker’s Burnley in a 2-3 thriller.
It was the visitor’s first win at Turf Moor since 1951 thanks to goals from Emile Smith Rowe, Calvin Bassey and Harry Wilson.
“Boos from the Burnley faithful after seven defeats in a row,. Its their worst top flight run in 121 years,” says Mike Minay.
Harry Wilson scored one and assisted the other two for Fulham, continuing his fine run of form for The Cottagers.
Wilson came off the bench in two of his first three league appearances this term, but he has started 12 of Fulham’s past 13 games – repaying Marco Silva’s new-found faith in him with five goals in that period.
His recent purple patch includes a hat-trick for Wales against North Macedonia last month.
His second assist at Burnley was exquisite – taking the ball down out of the sky and crossing right on to the head of Bassey, who could not really miss given the lack of adequate marking.
“Victory on the road for @FulhamFC with Harry Wilson involved in all three goals,” the Premier League tweeted on its official X handle @premierleague.

Burnley had 16 shots, eight on target and had an expected goals (xG) of 2.52 – totals which you would expect to be enough to win a game.
But it is their wretched defensive record which is costing them as we approach the midway point of the season.
“It feels like Déjà vu,” a frustrated and disappointed Scott Parker reacted to the seventh straight defeat for Burnley.
Parker’s side conceded just 16 goals in 46 Championship matches last season, a quite unbelievable record.
