Nigeria and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening security cooperation following high-level talks in Abuja between Nuhu Ribadu, country’s National Security Adviser, and a delegation of senior US lawmakers.
The discussions focused on counter-terrorism, regional stability, and expanding the strategic security partnership between the two nations.
The visit comes as a follow-up to high-level security talks held in Washington, D.C., last month, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance collaboration on regional and global security challenges.
The US delegation was led by senior members of the House of Representatives, including Mario Díaz-Balart, Norma Torres, Scott Franklin, Juan Ciscomani, and Riley Moore.

The lawmakers engaged with Ribadu and his team on a wide range of issues, from counter-terrorism strategies to ensuring stability across West Africa.
Speaking during the meeting, Ribadu reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen its security cooperation with the United States.
He emphasized that Nigeria is committed to expanding collaboration in key areas such as counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and broader strategic initiatives that bolster regional peace and security.
“The security challenges facing our region require strong collaboration between Nigeria and our international partners.
“We are committed to working closely with the United States to strengthen our joint efforts against terrorism and other threats, and to advance our shared interests in regional peace and security”, Ribadu said.
The talks come amid growing security concerns in both nations, particularly the persistent threat of extremist groups and organized crime across West Africa.
The US delegation expressed optimism about the prospects of a reinforced security partnership, noting that collaboration with Nigeria is vital not only for the country’s stability but also for the security of the broader West African sub-region.
