…to 42,000 trainees, 600 training centres
The Federal Government has commenced the first tranche of direct financial payments under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Initiative, marking another milestone in its drive to expand skills development and empower young Nigerians.
In a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Education on Thursday, the government confirmed that over 42,000 trainees across the country have received their monthly stipend of N22,500, designed to support their upkeep and transportation throughout the training period.

Similarly, more than 600 independent technical and vocational training centres have been paid for the instructional and practical training services they provide, a move aimed at strengthening the national skills ecosystem and ensuring uninterrupted learning for participants.
Launched on May 30, 2025, the TVET Initiative seeks to equip millions of young Nigerians with practical, in-demand skills that boost employability, entrepreneurship, and economic productivity.
According to the statement, the commencement of the payment phase demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to sustaining the programme and providing long-term support to students and training institutions.
Maruf Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, described the rollout of payments as a clear execution of the President’s directive to invest aggressively in our young people.
“The rapid commencement of payments under the TVET Initiative is a clear execution of the President’s directive to invest aggressively in our young people. President Tinubu believes that equipping our youth with in-demand, practical skills is the fastest way to drive job creation, entrepreneurship, and national economic growth. This is the very essence of the Renewed Hope Agenda turning potential into productivity.”
Since its launch, the TVET Initiative has progressed from registration to hands-on training, with students now fully engaged in intensive vocational courses. According to the ministry, The release of the first tranche of funds is expected to accelerate this momentum and reinforce the programme’s financial sustainability.
The statement noted that additional tranches will follow, ensuring continuous support as the initiative expands nationwide.
