Benue State has been listed among five states selected to benefit from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Refugee Response and Host Communities Support Grant, implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education in partnership with Save the Children International (SCI).
The other beneficiary states are Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Taraba and Adamawa.
This was disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja during the GPE National Project Steering Committee Meeting. The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Emmanuela Akese, Information Officer of Benue SUBEB.
The meeting brought together representatives from the five participating states, all of which are implementing various basic education interventions under the GPE-funded project.
Speaking at the gathering, Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, recalled that the project commenced on March 1, 2024, with a 22-month implementation timeline. He noted that both the Technical Committee and the National Project Steering Committee were inaugurated on May 23 and June 14, 2024, respectively.
Enitan said the intervention had recorded notable progress, adding that with the project nearing completion, focus has shifted to transition planning, handover processes and sustainability strategies to ensure long-term impact.

Grace Adagba, Executive Chairman of Benue SUBEB, presented key lessons learnt from the implementation process and shared human-interest success stories from the field. She also highlighted the sustainability measures Benue State is adopting to consolidate the progress achieved.
Adagba stressed that the meeting provided states with an important platform to exchange experiences, review achievements and collectively map out strategies for sustaining the gains of the GPE programme beyond the project’s lifecycle.
“It was indeed a productive engagement, and I appreciate the Executive Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for creating the enabling environment for basic education to thrive,” she said. “I remain committed to ensuring that Benue State continues to uphold the standards and expectations of the GPE-supported programme for the benefit of all learners under our care.”
