Stakeholders have been called upon on the urgent need for a united front in protecting schools across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.
Adedayo Adeniyan, the Ondo State Commander of Man O’ War Nigeria, made the call at a one-day symposium themed; “Safe School Project: Our Involvement and Impact as Man O’ War Members.” organised for the members of the organization in collaboration with the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
BusinessDay reports that the training focuses on equipping officers with essential skills needed to promote safety, discipline, and effective community engagement within schools environments in Ondo State.
Adeniyan, in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday in Akure by the Assistant Commander, Intelligent and Information Gathering of the command, Festus Adelowo, called on Nigerians to see security as a shared responsibility.
According to him, communities, government, and security agencies must work together to guarantee safety at all levels of society.
He, however, said the symposium became necessary in view of rising security concerns in schools and the need for trained Man O’ War personnel to support safety across the state.
“The symposium enhanced participants’ knowledge, strengthened operational readiness, and renewed the command’s commitment to supporting the ‘Safe School Initiative’ across Ondo State,” Adeniyan said.
Adeniyan said Man O’ War had observed a critical gap in Nigeria’s security system, the protection of schools, and had resolved to take up the challenge through its Safe School Initiative.
“Now that we have been trained on the strategies for protecting students, teachers, and school facilities, I believe that this will go a long way towards strengthening school security and we are appealing to all security agencies in the state to cooperate and collaborate with us so that we can achieve this goal in keeping our schools safe and conducive learning environment,” the Man O’ War commander said.
